Here You Will Find:

CBG, or cannabigerol, is one of the lesser-known compounds found in cannabis, but all of that is about to change. While it isn’t present in the same quantities as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) or CBD (cannabidiol), CBG has demonstrated some remarkable medicinal properties.

IS CBG THE SAME AS CBD?

No, but it’s a good question. The CBG cannabinoid is daddy to the three most well-known cannabinoids. There is an acidic form of CBG called CBGA (an inactive compound) which is broken down by plant enzymes to become CBD, THC and CBC. CBG remains in trace amounts (less than 1%) in most strains.

    DOES CBG GET YOU HIGH?

Both CBG and CBD are non-psychotropic (you won’t get high) and are actually believed to inhibit or counteract the effects of THC. That said, they have both been found to relieve anxiety and other mental conditions, fantastic news for those who do not like the psychoactive properties of THC.

    WHAT IS CBD GOOD FOR?

Ah, the million-dollar question! And one so difficult to answer. The complexity of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in humans, coupled with the myriad ways in which compounds interact with each other, in general, and in individuals, means any bold claims should be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt. With that caveat in mind, let’s check out CBG’s potential medical benefits.

    CAN CBG HELP WITH INFLAMMATION?

Yes. Both generally and more specifically with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Early studies have suggested the effects and process may be similar to that of CBD, in that the compound blocks cytokine production. The world is waiting for more CBG medical research in this area but the early signs are promising.

    IS CBG GOOD FOR GLAUCOMA?

CBG effects glaucoma by reducing intraocular pressure, widening the blood vessels around the affected area. This, coupled with the neuroprotective properties of CBG, make it an ideal candidate for targeted treatment of glaucoma.

IS CBG GOOD FOR APPETITE LOSS?

CBG benefits those suffering the side-effects of chemotherapy and conditions like cachexia by stimulating appetite, and it does so without the heavy-hitting effects of THC.

    CAN CBG HELP FIGHT CANCER?

CBG is not a cure for cancer, yet. It has, however, been shown to block receptors that can cause the growth of cancer cells. It can inhibit cell growth and induce cell death, dramatically reducing the size of tumors. Researchers are most excited about the benefits of CBG in the treatment of colorectal cancer, as the results in mice have been quite spectacular.

WILL CBG HELP WITH MY BLADDER PROBLEMS?

It depends on what they are. In a test that looked at different types of bladder issues, CBG was very good at inhibiting muscle contractions. This has lead researchers to suggest CBG as a potential treatment for bladder contraction disorders.

    DOES CBG HAVE ANTI-BACTERIAL PROPERTIES?

It certainly does and scientists have been aware of this, at least in terms of cannabis in general, for decades. Cannabis has anti-tubercular and antiseptic properties, and new research has shown CBG to be particularly effective against the MRSA bacteria. MRSA is resistant to methicillin and other drugs, following a global pattern of increased antibiotic resistance. If CBG lives up to its potential as an antimicrobial agent, the results could be nothing short of revolutionary.

CAN I CREATE CBG-RICH CANNABIS AT HOME?

It is possible to increase the relative quantities of CBG in your homegrown cannabis plants. To do so means nailing down the optimum time for extraction, usually three-quarters of the way through your plant’s normal flowering cycle. Without expensive testing kits, however, it would be impossible to judge your success.

WHERE CAN I FIND HIGH-CBG CANNABIS SEEDS?

Watch this space! Homegrown Cannabis Co. has a number of strains under development, with at least one (Girl Scout Cookies CBG) due for release very soon.
