Rum is another liquor that has seen a resurgence in popularity over recent years. A ban on sugar imports from the Caribbean and the development of American Whiskeys, in the late 18th century, saw a huge decline in demand for rum. Now, however, led by an army of mixologists and rum enthusiasts this sugar-based spirit is on the rise once again.
As always, start off by infusing your spirit with liquid marijuana!
Depending on which country you turn to, rum can be white, golden or a dark molasses colour. Each has its own distinct set of characteristics and means that the world of rum is a diverse and wide one. Traditionally, white rums are most likely to be used as a mixer spirit, whereas darker rums are more usually the sipping type.
Of course, rules are made for breaking and there are as many mixed drinks and cocktails that feature dark rums, as there are white, golden or shades in between. One thing is for sure, whether its the rum, grog, handed out to British and American navies in times gone by, or a classic caipirinha in Brazil, rum is often at its best when paired with fruit.
We’ve been working tirelessly (its a hard job but someone has to do it!) with a team of mixologists to find rum-based cocktails that would compliment the flavours of fine cannabis. With the addition of a weed-infused rum, the cocktails listed below are elevated to a new high, quite literally.
There are some wonderful, classic rum cocktails, Mai Tai, Zombie, or Hurricane to name but a few. In our list, we’ve tried to provide a balance of old and new that are easily achievable at home. After all, the average home bar is unlikely to stock 4 different rums and Pernod, to make the perfect Zombie. If yours does, a ‘Stoner Zombie’ is a beautiful thing, give it a go.

What do I need to make Cannabis-infused Rum cocktails?
Obviously, you’re going to need some cannabis-infused Rum. We have covered how to infuse liquor with marijuana in another article, so that is a great place to start. You can infuse any type of rum you want, white gold or navy, and you might be best off looking at which cocktails you would like to try, before making that choice.
If you’re fixed on using a Ron Zacapa Centenario, a Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva or a Havana Club 15 yr old, rather than infusing an entire bottle of the nectar, you may want to consider adding a few drops of a cannabis tincture? The method to make that can be found here.
Each of our recommended cocktails has a full ingredients list, so read those and prepare what you’ll need.
In addition to the liquid ingredients and garnishes, you’ll need fresh ice to hand, a cocktail shaker and some glassware. It’s nice to show your cocktail off in the correct, recommended glass, but the truth is it’ll taste good out of a jam jar. Our glassware suggestions are exactly that, use whatever glass you have to hand.
Our Suggested Cannabis-Infused Rum Cocktails
Our list of five weed-infused rum cocktails has been selected to showcase the flexibility of rum as a mixer liquor. We have tried to provide a mix of cocktail styles and used different styles of rum. They all have one thing in common, however, they’re going to taste absolutely amazing with cannabis-laced rum in them!

The Strawberry Kush is our own recipe, created by our team, especially for you weed enthusiasts. A THC twisted Mojito/Daiquiri mash-up, the strawberry and mint combo in this beauty really lift the zingy, herbal hints of weed.
2 oz cannabutter infused white rum
15 mint leaves
2 chopped strawberries
1 oz lime juice
⅔ oz Simple syrup
3 dashes Angostura bitters
How to mix:
Place all but one of the mint leaves, strawberries and simple syrup in your shaker and ‘muddle’. Add your rum, lime juice and bitters, along with a good scoop of ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or more and strain into a cocktail glass. Clap your remaining mint leaf between your hands, to release its essence, and float on the cocktail to garnish.
This single-serving Rum Punch gains depth and complexity from two types of rum. Only one rum needs to be infused with cannabis. Don’t be tempted to make a punch bowl or pitcher of this, as you might other punches; it’s way too easy to overindulge and, whilst that’s perhaps not the worst thing in the world with a ‘straight’ alcoholic punch, the addition of cannabis means it is easy to lose grip on your dosage.
1 ¼ oz dark rum (infused?)
1 ¼ oz light rum (infused?)
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
¼ oz lime juice
¼ oz grenadine
How to mix:
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds or more. Strain into a Hurricane glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or orange wheel.
Yes, we could have included a classic Mojito, but if there’s one ingredient that sets off the flavour of your weed better than mint or lime, it’s got to be grapefruit. Something about the bitter-sweet citrus of the grapefruit marries perfectly with the herbal notes of your cannabis. In this heavenly mix, we’ve got the mint and lime too! What’s not to like?
2 oz white weed-infused rum
3 oz grapefruit juice
2 oz club soda/sparkling water
½ oz fresh lime juice
½ oz simple syrup (to taste)
6 fresh mint leaves
grapefruit wedges (for garnish)
Add the mint leaves, lime juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and ‘muddle’. Pour in the grapefruit juice and white, weed-infused rum. Fill with ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds or more. Strain into an ice-filled Collins or Hi-ball glass. Top with club soda/sparkling water and garnish with mint leaves and halved grapefruit wheels.
Dark and Stormy
Another Hi-ball style cocktail, or perhaps best described as a mixed drink, the Dark ‘n’ Stormy should really only be made using Gosling’s Black Seal rum. It should also only be garnished with lime, rather than contain lime juice in the mix. Well, on the basis that we’re introducing our favourite new ingredient to this spicy potion, we’re going to kiss-off tradition and blow this thing up! You can swap out the rum in this recipe for Tequila, or Vodka when it would then become a Mexican Mule or Moscow Mule.
2 oz dark cannabis-infused rum
2-3 lime wedges
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Dash sugar syrup (optional)
3-4 oz high-quality ginger beer (the fierier the better)
Leaving room for two lime wedges, pour all the ingredients into a Collins or Hi-ball glass, over lots of ice. Squeeze the juice from both lime wedges into the drink and drop the wedges in. Stir gently and garnish with a wedge of lime.
The classic French 75 is given an aromatic and sophisticated twist in this stylish celebration drink. Ideal for parties, this recipe provides 6 servings. For a shortcut or single servings, you could consider using simple syrup and golden, spiced rum such as Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold or Kraken rum, if you want to go darker. This cuts out the heating part of the process.
2 oz golden caster sugar
1 tbsp allspice
7 oz golden weed-infused rum
3 oz lime juice
Bottle of champagne (or ‘fizz’ of your choice)
6 orange twists
How to mix:
Gently warm 2 oz golden caster sugar in a pan with 1 oz of water and add the allspice. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved and leave the mixture to cool. Strain through a coffee filter, or a sieve lined with a double layer of kitchen paper.
Pour the spiced syrup and cannabis-infused rum into a cocktail shaker along with the lime juice. Shake with ice and strain between six flute glasses. Top up with champagne and garnish each glass with an orange twist.
