Alcohol Free Cannabis Drink

Cannabis cocktails are a very tempting thing, but if you’re concerned about the cumulative effects of alcohol and cannabis, perhaps you should start with a cannabis ‘Mocktail’?

Harry Craddock, the author of 1930’s The Savoy Cocktail Book, famously said that a cocktail should be drunk “Quickly, while it’s laughing at you”.  This is not the origin of the word ‘Mocktail’, although Harry may have laughed at the notion of mixing a cocktail without alcohol?!  These days, there are ‘naked’ cocktails, ‘virgins’ and mocktails, that can still intoxicate the drinker whilst containing absolutely zero alcohol…Cannabis Mocktails.

It might be that you’ve never considered omitting the booze in your cannabis drink recipe, if that’s the case and this is your first time experimenting with liquid marijuana, why not take a read of our Everything You Need to Know About Cannabis Cocktails article?

Liquid marijuana drinks are gaining in popularity, as an alternative to cannabis edibles.  Whilst it still takes longer to feel the effects than smoking or vaping, when mixed in a drink, the body processes the THC and CBD much quicker than a regular ‘solid’ edible, so offering a speedier option.

As always, the first step is to figure out your method of creating liquid marijuana for infusion.

The key thing is how to get all those wonderful weed goodies into a non-alcoholic drink.

How do I get THC and CBD into my mocktail?

If you want to know how to make weed drinks, without any alcohol in them, read on.  Thc and CBD are not soluble in water and many of the popular methods of liquid extraction involve alcohol.  However, there are alternatives to making an alcohol-based cannabis tincture.  Glycerine can be used as an alcohol substitute in the extraction and you can find out how to extract THC using glycerin here.  There is also a method of extracting with alcohol, but then evaporating the alcohol content of your tincture.

Cannabis Honey is worthy of a mention, particularly if the drink you’re mixing requires honey or simple syrup.  Cannabis sugar, might also work, in the case of a drink like a Caipirinha or Mojito, where you might desire the abrasive qualities of the sugar granules when muddling limes?

So, now you are equipped with a number of useful tools of the canna-mixologist’s trade, what are you going to make?

Lucky for you, we’ve been working hard and our team of shakers and movers have put together a list of suitable weed drinks, to showcase your newly made tincture or infusion.

Ginger Mojito Mocktail

A highly refreshing twist on the classic Mojito, we love the way that the ginger, mint, and lime combine.  Swap out the sugar syrup for honey, if you like a deeper flavor, or use a tincture to add the goodies.

Ingredients:

¾ oz fresh lime juice

½ oz simple sugar syrup

3 freshly cut lime wedges

10 fresh mint leaves

Good quality dry ginger ale

How to mix:

Add the lime juice, syrup, and lime wedges to a Collins or Hi-ball glass. Place the mint leaves in the palm of your hand and clap twice, to release the essence.  Add the mint leaves to the glass.  Add crushed ice and stir.  Top with dry ginger ale, stirring as you do.

Garnish with a mint sprig.

Mango Margarita Mocktail

Is it a frozen Margarita or a Daiquiri?  In truth, without the correlating liquor or a salted rim, there’s no discernible difference and we don’t really care!  Whichever it is, this drink is refreshing and ever so satisfying on a hot day.  Our suggestion would be to use canna-honey, if it isn’t too strong, or maybe mix it with some natural honey to pad it out?  Use tincture if you prefer.

Ingredients:

12 oz orange juice

2 oz lime juice

3 tbsp honey

1/2 cup frozen mango or mango nectar

Sea salt to salt the glasses

1–2 limes, sliced

How to mix:

Wipe the rims of two glasses with a lime wedge, then dip in salt.  Turn the glasses upside down and wipe the salt from the inside of each glass with a cloth or serviette.  Add all the ingredients to a blender and blitz.  Fill each glass with crushed ice and pour your margarita.  Garnish with a lime wheel.

Alternatively, if you have no crushed ice, after blitzing the ingredients, add 3 cups of normal ice to the blender and blitz again.  Pour into your glasses and top with a lime wheel.

Rosemary Blueberry Smash

Another beautiful drink that you can use your canna-honey in if you like.  The herbal tones are a perfect complement to whichever marijuana infusion or tincture you wish to add.  This is a sophisticated and wonderfully light mocktail.

Ingredients:

7-8 blueberries

1 rosemary sprig, stripped

1 oz honey

1 oz fresh lemon juice, strained

4 oz sparkling mineral water

Ice

How to mix:

In your cocktail shaker, gently muddle the blueberries, rosemary leaves, and honey. Add the lemon juice and a good serving of ice, then shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain Collins or Hi-ball glass and add fresh ice. Top with sparkling water, stirring as you add.  Garnish with a cocktail stick skewer of blueberries and a sprig of rosemary.

Naked Paloma

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, grapefruit juice and weed’s herbal, pine-like flavors are a marriage made in heaven!  Add lime into the mix and….well, just have a go at this Naked Paloma and see what we mean.  Canna-honey opportunity ahead, but shake it up as you prefer.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz lime juice

1 oz grapefruit juice

1 oz agave syrup or honey

Pinch of sea salt

How to mix:

Pour all the ingredients in your cocktail shaker with a good serve of ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain Collins glass, add fresh ice, and top with soda, stirring as you pour.

Cherry Bomb Mocktail

“Hello Daddy, hello Mom, here’s your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb.”  Ok, maybe not the cocktail to slip to your parents?  At least, not with the addition of your cannabis tincture!  This cooler really couldn’t be easier to make.

Ingredients:

1 ltr lemon-lime soda

4 oz grenadine

½ oz fresh lime juice

4 maraschino cherries

How to mix:

Add soda, grenadine, and lime juice to a large pitcher of ice and stir. Pour over ice in a rocks glass and add your tincture.  Stir and garnish with a cherry.

Non-Alcoholic Cannabis Drinks

Alcohol Free Cannabis Drink

While the majority of our Cannabis Cocktails series will be related to alcoholic cocktails, we understand that not everyone will consume alcohol and therefore figured that it would be good to add some alternatives. In all honesty, regardless of drinking alcohol or not, we believe the Pineapple Express mocktail to be one of the best tasting drinks we have ever tried, but don’t take our word for it, watch the video and make your own!
