Lemon OG is a relatively new hybrid that leans slightly towards the Indica side and delivers a suite of well-balanced effects. At up to 24% THC, it's powerful enough to produce a devastating high, but in moderate doses, the psychoactive traits are pretty manageable for most tokers.
Lemon OG is a cross between two elite strains. The first is Las Vegas Lemon Skunk, itself a mix of two unique Skunk phenotypes and famous for the citrusy odor it blends perfectly with the family's classic scent.
The other is OG #18, yet another testament to the greatness of OG Kush. Its dreamy, sedating body stone helped it win several accolades including the 2009 and 2010 High Times Cannabis Cups, the 2010 Europe Champions Cup and the 2010 Spannabis Indoor Hydro Cup.
In terms of genotype, Lemon OG does not stray far from its parents. Even the effects are remarkably similar, beginning with a euphoric high and followed by deep relaxation. As well as being a popular recreational toke, it's also said to be great for medicinal use.
After generations of breeding, a stabilized mother displaying unusual growth traits emerged. From this mother plant, feminized seeds found their way to Homegrown Cannabis Co. – and hence to the rest of the world. They're easy to germinate, producing robust plants that are straightforward to maintain. After 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, a remarkably generous yield awaits.
Other names used to refer to this hybrid include Presidential Kush, Lemon OG Kush, OG Lemon Kush and OG Lemon.
Growing Lemon OG from Feminized Seeds
Lemon OG is a compact plant, small enough to make pinching and topping unnecessary. Typical of the Kush lineage, it's a naturally resilient specimen with excellent resistance to pests, disease and small mistakes affecting environmental conditions. It's suitable for beginners and perfect for people who prefer less finicky strains.
It thrives in most environments, whether indoors, outdoors, or in a greenhouse. The temperature and humidity inside the grow room must be kept at optimal levels. If necessary, a small oscillating fan can be used to create a light breeze, which can help the plants develop sturdier stems.
In terms of medium, organic soil may be the best choice for maximizing terpene production. Going soilless is also an option. Feeding nutrients directly into the root system helps bring more explosive growth. Employing the Sea of Green technique is advantageous too, because it encourages the buds to develop on the upper canopy where light absorption is at its best. Consequently, not only is the vegetative period cut down by two weeks on average, but the yield remains the same as – or, in some instances, higher than – usual.
Once the plant reaches the flowering stage, it produces pendulous buds and pale green-yellow leaves covered with sticky white and orange trichomes and fiery red pistils. With a high calyx-to-leaf ratio, the yield indoors should be between 1.47 and 1.8 ounces per square foot.
Lemon OG reaches its full potential outdoors. In a Mediterranean-type climate, each plant produces between 14 and 21 ounces, sometimes reaching 28 ounces under the care of an expert.
Fragrance and Flavor
The lemony, citrusy and tangy odor suggests the presence of limonene – a terpenoid that's said to have a number of health benefits. When consumed as a joint, the smoke may be a tad harsh, whereas using a water bong or vaping allows for a smoother hit. On exhale, it leaves a sweet and sour aftertaste.
Lemon OG brings a profoundly uplifting experience. From the outset, you'll notice a euphoric buzzing in your brain, one that enhances the mood and promotes creative thinking. For some people, it may even spark philosophical thoughts and deep conversations.
Even as the physical effects set in, the mind still remains sharp. But any urge to be mobile is likely to melt away thanks to the calming properties of this potent hybrid. As deep relaxation takes over, the heaviness weighing down on your limbs will soon lock you to the couch. In this state of bliss, taking a long snooze becomes pretty much irresistible.
