Matanuska Tundra Feminized
STRAIN PROFILE Matanuska Tundra Feminized
Matanuska Tundra Feminized Profile by Kyle Kushman
Alaska was not really thought of as a cannabis-producing land, until a new variety was found in the grasslands of Matanuska Valley. An almost pure Sativa, it’s referred to by a few different names including Alaskan Thunder Fuck (ATF) and Matanuska Thunder Fuck.
Matanuska Tundra is not a pure landrace, but one theory that has persisted is that it was a Northern Californian Sativa x Russian Ruderalis offspring that was then crossed with an Afghani. The modern iteration of this strain leans towards the Indica side. It retains the ability to produce massive amounts of resins but its flowering time is longer than typical of the species, at some 10 - 12 weeks.
For the convenience of home cultivators, Homegrown Cannabis Co. offers Matanuska Tundra in feminized seed form. Apart from ensuring that female plants turn up more than 90% of the time, these high-quality seeds boast an incredibly high germination rate. They also have minimal hermaphroditic tendencies, so beginners have some leeway if they make mistakes when cultivating.
Growing Matanuska Tundra Feminized Seeds
Matanuska Tundra showcases the best-loved attributes of Indica strains: small stature, massive resin production and large, dense buds.
The plants don’t get much taller than 2.5 feet, and are often quite a bit shorter. They develop massive colas coated in frosty white crystals, and sport numerous side branches amid a thick foliage of palm-shaped leaves.
Growing the enigmatic beauty indoors is most fruitful in a Sea of Green setup. Keep the RH level between 40 and 50% to prevent moisture buildup, and maintain a comfortable environment with temperatures around 70 to 80°F. With the combination of optimal conditions and suitable grow method, about 1.14 to 1.22 ounces of buds per square foot will be ready for collection at the end of flowering.
Matanuska Tundra can also be cultivated outdoors in locations with a warm, sunny climate and a long summer. Although its Indica genetics allow it to prosper even in less-than-ideal settings, a maximum yield of up to 17 ounces per plant is possible only in ideal and reliable settings. In the northern hemisphere, harvest should take place by late October.
Fragrance and Flavor
With its lush green color and frosty covering, it’s easy to compare Matanuska Tundra to the mountain slopes of the Alaskan northlands. In the fragrance and flavor department, it’s a subtle mix of earth and wood with floral qualities, and a chocolatey twist that’s loved by connoisseurs.
Matanuska Tundra’s THC content does not exceed 20%, which leads some people to underestimate its potency. The fact it’s a creeper makes it even more insidious, so use it with caution. In low doses, the pleasure and relaxation induced are unlike any other.
It begins by delivering a euphoric and often an energetic rush to the head and the body. Stress and negative emotions begin to melt away, and happiness comes surging in instead, making for an upbeat demeanor all round. During this mental flight, the ebbing high heightens the senses and increases focus. It inspires creativity and keeps the motivation going for a productive and physically active high.
After some time, a warm and slightly tingly sensation spreads from the head down to every part of the anatomy. Almost instantly, the physical effects strip away tension and uneasiness, providing a pillow of comfort that makes the limbs feel too soft and lazy to move. Thanks to its narcotic stone, lazing on the sofa in utter paralysis becomes pretty much unavoidable.
Matanuska Tundra is also loved by patients seeking therapeutic relief, and the head-to-toe buzz it provides may soothe the torment of various maladies.
Under this herb’s euphoric influence, the mind is occupied with joyful thoughts and emotions that may drive out stress and anxiety. It’s been used by patients suffering from depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, severe mood swings and many other mental disorders.
The body, too, gets to ride the wave of comfort afforded by the strain’s anodyne combo. Said to contain potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, Matanuska Tundra may silence pain and reduce swelling. To this end, it’s been used to alleviate the symptoms of PMS, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, ulcerative colitis and more.
Its ‘munchies’ effect may bring induce intense hunger that even bulimia and anorexia cannot hinder. Cyclic nausea and vomiting caused by pharmaceutical drugs or treatments like chemotherapy may also desist.
When the mind, body, and appetite are satisfied, the herb gifts a long, deep sleep that’ll help prepare you for the next day’s battles.
To get the most enjoyable experience from Matanuska Tundra, keep the dosage low, and take intervals between hits to let the effects settle. Because of its potency, cottonmouth and dry eyes are common. In higher doses, lightheadedness, headache, increased anxiety and paranoia may manifest too.
